By now, you should know that the New Hampshire House defeated an amendment to the state constitution which would ban gay marriage. 207-125. Kicked ass. This is big news. So, I just went through my blogroll to see what was my bloggers' reaction. What I liked the most was an e-mail that an NH Republican sent to Andrew Sullivan. My favorite quote from the e-mail:
"We hate taxes (no sales or income tax here!), we hate big government (we trust it to plow roads, and that's about it), but we don't hate each other. Gays and lesbians are too much a part of our social fabric - our friends, family, neighbors, and yes, politicians - for this ridiculous constitutional ploy to have had any chance."
AMERICABlog offered its kudos, praising the House for taking the state motto seriously. The state motto in NH is "Live Free or Die".
aTypical Joe hopes more 'mo ban marriage defeats will follow soon.
Good As You: "NH House kicks marriage amendment's buttocks."
Pam's House Blend: "Marriage Bigots lose in NH."
Towleroad: "New Hampshire House defeats amendment to ban gay marriage."
Of course, I have every reason to believe my gay movie reviews played a major role in such a great step towards human rights. Much more to be done though.
