A post on Bent reminded me that I did not see Lost's season finale. For some reason it took me forever to watch the last episode, but I finally saw it.
I provide some info on the very last scene after the jump. Particularly, I will discuss the language spoken in that last scene and some possible reasons for that (all out of my butt). Of course, the discussion will spoil the episode.
Related: Matthew Fox pictures are here, and his skinny-dip statement here. Where's the gay in Lost discussion here. Watch the 4 last episodes for free at abc (you need to be in the US for this to work) or download episodes from iTunes:
So, at the end of the episode Desmond (played by Henry Ian Cusick) uses some sort of last resort trick -- a trick to be used when the "button" is not pushed. Desmond's trick puts in motion some sort of magnetic mega explosion, there's this big glare and people all over the island hear a deafening sound, but everybody is fine (except that some suffered what appeared to be a temporary hearing loss). After that, we see two guys playing chess in a monitoring station (probably on one of the poles) -- and that's our last scene for the season.
In the last scene, the two guys are speaking Portuguese. Both have a strong accent, but I can tell it's supposed to be Brazilian Portuguese, not Portuguese as they speak in Portugal (the accent would have been quite different). Just in case you don't know, I am from Brazil.
I really think one of the guys was actually Jack (Matthew Fox). The eyes are the same, and that would explain why he spoke Portuguese with an accent. Look at the pics:
Seriously, what do you think? I'm pretty sure it was Jack. In that scene, I think they are meant to track down Desmond for Penelope (Desmond's super wealthy playboy-beautiful droopy eyed girlfriend). So Bizarro Jack calls Penelope and speaks English with her, also with an accent. I think that accent is fake, that Matthew can do. What he could not pull out was the Brazilian accent in his Portuguese (I can help him with that, of course).
So here's the out of my ass theory for what's the matter with Bizarro Jack -- why he speaks Portuguese: Jack's father had an affair in Brazil a long time ago, which resulted in a kid, the kid grew up in Brazil and then went to one of the poles for work or something. Or, Jack and Bizarro Jack are twins but one of the twins (Bizarro Portuguese speaking Jack) was stolen from the maternity ward and sent to Brazil. By coincidence (Lost is full of those) Penelope hires Bizarro Jack's team to track Desmond down.
I think the clues in the episode leads us to believe Penelope's father is responsible for the whole thing, the whole experiment on the island, trapping Desmond on the island, etc. Also, Penelope is a character from Greek mythology -- the character waits 20 years to get her husband back...Lost's Penelope already waited some 3 years...
I loved the episode. That is how Lost is supposed to be!
Just in case you hadn't seen this one before, here's one more theory for the show, quite a few theories have already been discredited. My mini-theory probably will too.
Yeah Mauricio, So many questions, right? I hated the fact that Lost will have only a few new episodes this fall, with more new episodes starting only in 2007...that pissed me off.

i think that locke will get paraplegic again, after the bright in the sky..
if the new mistery is about the magnetism of the island, why have The Others been disguised all the time? why did they build fake straw houses?
and a last question: wasn't the landscape (mountains and snow) moving while the two portuguese guys were playing chess??? i really think they were in a boat, getting close of the island..because Desmond turned the key, released the magnetism and they noticed that in the computer. But, how could it be snowing there?
