Guys, Summer Storm is so cute. It's such a good movie.
In the movie, Robert Stadlober plays a teenager who is the star of his small town rowing team. He falls for his best friend Achim, played by Kostja Ullman.
They go to a summer camp. There, a girl gets in the way of their friendship, and a gay rowing team called Queerstrokes helps them all grow up.
Solid acting, great production value. You should definitely see Summer Storm (you can get it on DVD).
The light for us gays is extremely positive, even with the few homophobic slurs and one or two stereotypes. I will talk about those after the jump. My discussion will reveal a bit too much though.
Watch the trailer for Summer Storm here:
One not so positive light could be deemed to come from Malte, the character played by hottie Hanno Koffler (that's him eating a banana...).
Hanno plays the hot gay predator preying on and recruiting any and all straight guys out there. I actually think that that was a pretty good thing to see. Straight guys need to be able to deal with that. I don't think gays should be bullies or super aggressive, but what's the harm in being the object of someone's affection. Just say no if you don't like it. It's that simple.
There were also a few homophobic incidents in the movie, like when the character played by Tristano Casanova calls the Queerstrokes faggots. Tristano says he cannot lose to faggots in the upcoming boat race...that kind of thing. But Tristano ends up stroking with the queers in the final race (he is the one being kissed by our gay Hanno in the pic below). Tristano's character could have been a closet case...it was not clear whether his character was gay or not.
Anyway, the few incidents were all nicely reversed by the end of the movie. Great light for us gays.
Go Marco! Way to write and direct a movie!
Hey Sha, can't really help you there, I don't remember the after-race details ;-)

Hey RIC, the movie is indeed German. I saw it with subtitles ;-)
Arthur, I also loved the pier scene, so tense and so tender ;-)

It's a German film, I presume. I'm glad good things are happening in the EU. But then again not so good either, since we get to know so little about it...
Thank you, Augusto, for the great review!

This film brought a warm glow to my heart when I watched it last year. There's a scene on the pier that is just lovely. A perfect coming out movie. Great review btw.
