In The Number 23, Jim Carrey becomes obsessed with a book his wife gives him (the wife is played by Virginia Madsen). The book tells the story of a guy obsessed with the number 23, Jim Carrey identifies with the loony and becomes a mad bitch.
Everything can be reduced to 23: names, license plates, addresses, birth dates, etc. That gets annoying, fast, but the reason why Jim himself (well, his character) becomes obsessed with the book does add some juice to the story.
You see some of Jim Carey's goofiness, but this is a more serious role.
No gay content.

As for Judi Dench, she rocked on Notes on a Scandal!
